Projects, Starlight, and running

Create an Astro site and work with its development workflow.

On this page

Create a site#

Choose the Astro or Starlight entry in File → New → Project. Review the selected starter or community theme and destination. Install dependencies, then run the project’s development script to confirm the unmodified starter works.

For Starlight projects, use supported component generation from the Generate menu. Review generated imports and file placement against the chosen theme’s conventions.

Run the CLI#

Create or inspect an Astro CLI configuration for development, build, or preview. Confirm its project root and arguments. Keep development and preview ports distinct when running both servers.

The documented release supports Astro 7.3 preview --ignore-lock where appropriate and validates version and conflicting background flags. Use it only with a compatible installed Astro version.

Check before deployment#

Run a production build and inspect the preview, including content routes and imported components. Deploy actions can target Cloudflare, Vercel, or Netlify when their project and account setup is complete. Verify the intended provider project before publishing.
