Configuration

Language server#

Open Settings → Languages & Frameworks → Nix → Language Server. Choose nixd, nil, or Devenv and configure its executable. Discovery checks explicit paths, PATH, and common Nix profile locations such as ~/.nix-profile/bin and /run/current-system/sw/bin.

Formatting and diagnostics#

Use Nix → Formatting & Diagnostics to choose the formatter, command, format-on-save behavior, Statix/Deadnix toggles, and suppressed diagnostics. In release 2026.1.11, the plugin’s Format on Save works independently of IntelliJ’s separate Reformat Code-on-save option.

Development environments#

Use Nix → Development Environment for optional Devenv integration and environment injection into Nix run configurations. Enabling a Devenv language server and enabling its environment integration are separate decisions.

Other settings#

Child pages include Documentation, Store Browser, and Tools & Debugging. Configure nixd option expressions for your actual workspace rather than copying expressions from an unrelated machine.
