Overview
What Nix Pro provides, its requirements, and where to start.
On this page
Nix Pro combines a native Nix editor with nixd, nil, or Devenv language-server support, formatter and lint tools, flake workflows, package search, and a read-only Nix Store Browser.
Requirements#
IDE compatibility: IntelliJ IDEA 2025.2+. Check the Marketplace list for other editions and their supported versions.
The documented release is 2026.1.11. Its Marketplace compatibility starts at IntelliJ Platform build 252.0. Check the Marketplace compatibility list for your IDE edition and version before installing.
Install Nix for evaluation and command execution. Install the language server you choose (nixd, nil, or Devenv) and optional formatters, Statix, and Deadnix. Native syntax editing remains available without a language server. Flake operations require a Nix installation configured to support them.
Start here#
Install Nix Pro, then follow Editing and Nix tools. The configuration reference explains where to adjust the behavior for your project.
In this manual#
- Editing and Nix tools — Use native editing with a selected language server and diagnostics.
- Flakes and the Nix store — Run flake outputs and inspect local store dependencies.
Feature guides#
Editor#
- Nix editing, lint tools, and formatting — Understand local syntax assistance and external diagnostics on a small expression.
Flakes and environments#
- Flake outputs and reusable run configurations — Inspect the exact installable before building, running, or entering a shell.
Store browser#
- Store paths, closures, and roots — Explain disk usage without mistaking a cleanup preview for deletion.
Current limitations#
Evaluation and external tools need Nix and the relevant executables. The Store Browser is read-only: cleanup previews do not run garbage collection, delete paths, or remove roots. Package-install actions do modify a Nix profile when explicitly executed.
