Overview
What LaTeX Pro provides, its requirements, and where to start.
On this page
LaTeX Pro provides native LaTeX and BibTeX authoring, project-wide navigation and refactoring, local compilation, a PDF preview with SyncTeX, bibliography tools, and conversion to and from Typst.
Requirements#
IDE compatibility: IntelliJ IDEA 2025.3.1+. Check the Marketplace list for other editions and their supported versions.
The documented release is 2026.1.14. Its Marketplace compatibility starts at IntelliJ Platform build 253.29346. Check the Marketplace compatibility list for your IDE edition and version before installing.
Editing works without a TeX distribution. For PDF builds, install TeX Live or MiKTeX with latexmk and your chosen engine, or configure Tectonic. Bibliographies may require BibTeX or Biber. Pandoc or Morph is optional for conversion; texdoc provides installed-package documentation.

Install LaTeX Pro, then follow Build and preview. The configuration reference explains where to adjust the behavior for your project.
In this manual#
- Build and preview — Compile a document locally and navigate between source and PDF.
- Bibliographies and authoring — Manage citations, tables, document structure, and package-aware editing.
Feature guides#
Start here#
Begin with An authoring workshop for a complete example project and a guided first workflow.
- An authoring workshop — Build a multi-file article with an equation, citations, and a long table.
Projects and builds#
- Main files and document dependencies — Resolve chapter roots and inspect shared, missing, or cyclic inputs.
- Compiler backends and SyncTeX — Choose latexmk, Tectonic, or a direct engine and diagnose source/PDF navigation.
Editor#
- Completion, navigation, and refactoring — Explore package-aware commands, labels, citations, and custom declarations.
Authoring tools#
- Table editing and multipage tables — Insert grids, edit structure, and preserve longtable headers and footers.
- Equations, Generate, and source intentions — Insert structured content and transform math without losing its body.
- Beamer, code blocks, and writing assistance — Structure a presentation and keep code/prose tooling in the right regions.
Bibliography#
- Citations and BibTeX editing — Complete, navigate, rename, and validate bibliography entries in context.
- Bibliography search, DOI import, and health — Find entries and review duplicates before changing a shared library.
Import and export#
- Document conversion and assets — Review LaTeX/Typst conversion and keep linked resources discoverable.
Current limitations#
Static analysis cannot interpret arbitrary TeX expansion, unusual category codes, or every package’s custom syntax. Compilation remains authoritative. PDF preview needs a working local compiler; conversion can be lossy. Tectonic may need network access to populate its support cache.
