Creating images with AI

Configure an image provider and generate a new image from a prompt.

On this page

Configure a provider#

Open Settings → Tools → ImageEdit Pro and find AI image generation. Configure the key for OpenAI or Google Gemini, then select the default provider and image preferences. Ordinary drawing and annotation do not require a provider key.

Generation uses the selected external service and its account, limits, and billing. Keep keys in plugin settings rather than project files, and use prompts you intend to send to that provider.

Create an image#

  1. Select a destination directory in the Project view.
  2. Open its New menu and choose New Image from AI Prompt….
  3. Enter the filename and prompt, then select the provider and available size or aspect-ratio options.
  4. Review the destination. If the filename already exists, the plugin asks before overwriting it.
  5. Start generation and inspect the returned image before adding it to your documentation.

Describe the image’s subject, intended use, composition, and any space needed for labels. For example, a documentation backdrop can request a quiet landscape composition with an empty area for a title. Check the output’s text and visual details yourself.

Continue editing#

Open the generated image in ImageEdit Pro, add labels or annotations, and save an editable project. Use Privacy, saving, and export to produce a separate deliverable while retaining the editable work.

When generation fails#

Read the provider error and check the selected provider, configured key, service access, and network connection. A valid key for one service does not authenticate another. Available provider models and account limits can change independently of the installed plugin; use only options supported by both your plugin release and provider account.
