Export formats and advanced options
Choose CLI or Tinymist export and review format-specific settings.

Choose the output format#
The Tools → Typst export actions support PDF, SVG, PNG, HTML, Markdown, and plain text. The first three can use the standalone Typst compiler. HTML, Markdown, and plain text require the running Tinymist language server.
Open a .typ file to start the configured server before using server-backed exports. Configure the Typst compiler path for CLI-backed workflows. A working language server does not automatically configure an external compiler executable.
Export a multi-file document#
Pin the intended entry point, resolve the Typst root, then export. Check the output-location setting: next to source and project-root output are different destinations. Review overwrite/output paths before distributing a file left over from an earlier build.
Use Advanced Export#
Advanced Export exposes format-specific options supported by the installed tool version. With the documented Tinymist generation these include PDF standards/tagging and creation timestamp, page selection, PNG output templates, and multi-output choices. Query-related options have their own pretty/strict controls.
Do not enable every option indiscriminately. A PDF accessibility/standard requirement should be checked against the actual produced file. A page selection or image filename template changes which artifacts are generated; inspect every requested page rather than only the first image.
Pass document inputs#
For a document that reads sys.inputs, extra Typst arguments can provide a value:
--input edition=review
The document must read that key, for example #sys.inputs.at("edition", default: "draft"). Extra CLI flags belong to the compiler workflow and supported version; they are not arbitrary Tinymist settings.
Verify the artifact#
Open the exported file and inspect headings, figures, links, fonts, and multi-page tables. Text-oriented exports can represent layout differently from PDF. Retain the .typ sources and assets alongside the distributable format when you need to reproduce an export later.
