Tables, mathematics, and formatting
Insert structured Typst content and inspect its rendered layout.
On this page
Build a table#
Use the table chooser to insert an initial grid, then replace the cells with meaningful content:
#table(
columns: (1fr, auto),
align: (left, right),
table.header([Experiment], [Score]),
[Baseline], [42],
[Candidate], [57],
)
The row/column editing actions operate on the table under the caret. Inspect the source after adding a column so the cell sequence still matches the intended layout. A visual grid insertion gives a starting structure rather than deciding your data’s grouping.
Write inline and display mathematics#
Typst mathematics has its own syntax:
The total is $ sum_(i=1)^n x_i $.
$ integral_0^1 x^2 dif x = 1/3 $
Use completion and the preview together to inspect symbols, grouping, spacing, and equation layout. Copying LaTeX commands verbatim is not a reliable Typst conversion strategy.
Insert formatted content#
Formatting actions wrap the selection or insert the appropriate Typst structure for emphasis, headings, links, code, and other blocks. Examine whether the caret is in markup, a code expression, or math before applying an action; those contexts use different syntax.
Language injection provides editing support inside recognized code blocks. It does not execute the example or make its dependencies available to the document build.
Format consistently#
Choose the supported formatter in Tools → Typst, then reformat the file. Inspect the source diff and keep formatter behavior consistent across contributors. A formatter changes representation; the preview and export still determine whether the document renders as intended.
For a chapter that depends on shared definitions, keep the correct main file pinned while testing table and equation changes.
