Obsidian vaults and graphs

Navigate wikilinks and inspect a vault without leaving the IDE.

On this page

Open a vault#

Open a folder containing .obsidian, or select the Obsidian profile and vault root in settings. Test a wikilink such as [[Project notes]], a heading link such as [[Project notes#Next steps]], and an embed such as ![[diagram.png]] using files in your vault.

Completion and navigation understand aliases, headings, block references, tags, embeds, and common note properties. The preview also renders highlights, comments, callouts, note transclusions, and supported local media.

Explore the graph#

Open View → Tool Windows → Markdown Graph or Tools → Markdown Pro → Open Markdown Graph. Choose the whole vault or the neighborhood around the active file. Adjust depth and visibility controls to focus on citations, embeds, tags, or Canvas references.

Search for a note and follow incoming or outgoing connections. An unresolved node can offer to create a missing Markdown note; check the configured new-note directory before accepting. A missing node may instead indicate that the wrong vault root is selected.

Inspect Canvas files#

Open a .canvas file to see the visual Canvas tab alongside editable JSON source. The visual tab supports zooming, file and image cards, groups, labels, and connectors. It is deliberately read-only in this release: use the JSON editor or Obsidian itself to change the board.

Keep vault-relative asset paths intact when moving notes. Review link updates and the preview after a refactor, especially when a note is embedded elsewhere.
