Overview
What Markdown Pro provides, its requirements, and where to start.
On this page
Markdown Pro extends the bundled Markdown editor into a documentation and knowledge-base workspace. It adds table tools, rich previews, framework-aware MDX, documentation-route checks, Obsidian graphs, presentations, document conversion, and data-driven templates.
Requirements#
IDE compatibility: IntelliJ IDEA 2025.3.1+. Check the Marketplace list for other editions and their supported versions.
The documented release is 2026.2.8. Its Marketplace compatibility starts at IntelliJ Platform build 253.29346. Check the Marketplace compatibility list for your IDE edition and version before installing.
Keep the bundled Markdown plugin enabled. Basic Markdown editing and fallback previews work without a site toolchain. Real MDX site previews require a supported JavaScript-capable IDE such as WebStorm or IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, plus the project’s dependencies and development server. Morph, Knap, Slidev, and reveal.js workflows require their corresponding tools or project assets.
Start here#
Install Markdown Pro, then follow Editing and preview. The configuration reference explains where to adjust the behavior for your project.
In this manual#
- Editing and preview — Format Markdown, edit tables, and choose an accurate preview.
- Documentation sites and MDX — Configure a site root and preview framework routes inside the IDE.
- Obsidian vaults and graphs — Navigate wikilinks and inspect a vault without leaving the IDE.
- Conversion and Knap templates — Convert documents with review, or generate Markdown from structured data.
- Slidev and reveal.js — Preview presentation projects alongside their source.
Feature guides#
Editor and preview#
- Markdown flavors, tables, and code fences — Choose parsing rules and edit structured Markdown without damaging delimiters.
Documentation sites#
- MDX routes and documentation inspections — Resolve real site routes and diagnose unresolved or orphaned pages.
Obsidian#
- Wikilinks, blocks, and transclusions — Build an Obsidian note graph with aliases, heading links, and embeds.
- Canvas boards and raw JSON — Inspect visual boards while keeping their source portable.
Conversion and generation#
- Knap data-driven document generation — Preview records and generate collision-safe filenames from structured data.
- Mermaid and document conversion — Render diagrams and review format changes as separate workflows.
Current limitations#
The Obsidian Canvas visual tab is read-only; edit its JSON source for changes. MDX fallback rendering does not execute React components. Framework previews and presentation servers depend on the actual project toolchain. Conversion may change formatting or semantics and needs a diff review.
Release reference#
These instructions target the published 2026.2.8 release. Check the version under Settings → Plugins → Installed if your IDE behaves differently. For setup failures, start with troubleshooting.
